SEDIMENT SAMPLING, CHARACTERIZATION, AND REMEDIATION

Contaminated sediment poses ecological and human health risks in many watersheds throughout the United States. Toxic chemicals in sediment may come from discharges of industrial waste, sewage, contaminated surface runoff, or pollutants present in rain water. More than ten federal statutes enforce the assessment, prevention, and remediation of contaminated sediment. Sediment characterization and remediation projects, however, pose unique access problems requiring specialized equipment and expertise.

Vibracore Sediment Sampling

EM&C offers state-of-the-art vibracore sediment sampling technology that collects nearly undisturbed, intact sediment core samples. The samples allow for extremely accurate physical and chemical assessment of sediment. EM&C’s watercraft and sampling equipment is fully capable for large open water bodies and easily adaptable for shallow ponds, ditches, streams, rivers and wetlands. The result is highly defensible data for support of contamination assessments, depositional characterization, sediment removal plans, and other projects requiring accurate sediment data.
